Contemplative Prayer
Led by Dr. Ruth D. Anderson, Ph.D.

We begin our time by taking three deep, intentional breaths and then enter the silence together for 20 minutes. At the end of the 20 minutes, we share any concerns and celebrations for a few moments to carry with us during our week. You are welcome to drop in or come and join this special group for the term. No fee, but please enroll.

Wednesdays 12–12:30 p.m.

Writing From The Heart
Led by Steve Cushman, MFA

This expressive writing workshop will provide you with the opportunity to write about what matters most to you. In a small group setting, we will engage in structured writing exercises and read and discuss writing that deals with matters of the heart and spirit. We will look at ways of generating ideas about your unique experiences and then sharing those ideas in a comfortable environment. Previous experience or comfort with writing not necessary.

Sacred Activism: Being Present to Children in Poverty
Led by Ruth D. Anderson, Ph.D.

For 13 years, a small group of people have been working together to support and be with children living in poverty. We tutor the children Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at Partnership Village, a local transitional housing community. On the last Monday of most months during the school year, we gather to pray and reflect on our work together. No fee, but if you are interested in attending one or more of these Monday gatherings, please enroll.

Monday, 4-6 p.m., September 30; October 28

An Introduction to the Inward Journey of Faith Talk
(Free and open to the Public)
Talk by the Rev. Greg Farrand

At Second Breath we believe there is no great outer work without great inner work. But too often we don’t know how to walk the inward journey of faith that transforms us from the inside out. During this Thursday presentation we will introduce and explore the path and practice of the Inner Presence Process. Rooted in Scripture, the Christian Wisdom tradition, psychology, and neuroscience, we will explore how the lenses and paradigms that we inherit from our culture and upbringing keep us stuck and how, through spiritual practice, we experience a shift of consciousness that Jesus described as the Kingdom of God.

Thursday, August 22, 6-8 p.m.

Retirement: When, What and Is This Really a Good idea for me?!

Wednesdays, 10-11:30 a.m., September 25 for 5 weeks

Divine Mystery as Mother
Led by Linda Brown, PhD.

In this transformative time in which many of our ideas are being challenged, concepts of the Divine are no exception. This class offers a new way to experience the sacred through becoming acquainted with feminine figures and practices that embody our understanding of the Divine Mystery as Mother, and enhance our intimacy with God as Mother. As we explore ideas, we will share insights into such questions as: “If you merged with the Light of the Mother how would you be different?” We will create a safe container in which to explore the wonder of knowing God as feminine through the practice of intentional silence, listening, music, readings and dialogue.

Mondays, 1-3 p.m., September 23 for 6 weeks
